Topics of interest include biomarkers, environmental triggers, autoimmunity, mechanistic studies using multi-omics, immune activity at various disease stages, therapeutic responses (especially immune modulation), age effects, and comorbid autoimmune conditions. Non-responsive projects include those proposing use of animal models, clinical trials with efficacy endpoints, or any use of restricted samples not permitting open data/publication in accordance with NIH policy.

The New Investigator Gateway Award in Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Research provides support for innovative preliminary research projects by new and early stage investigators. This program embeds awardees within major collaborative consortia, offering them opportunities to network, deepen understanding of key questions in T1D, and form lasting research collaborations to propel their careers forward.
