The VINES program is a multisector initiative led by the National Science Foundation (NSF), in partnership with industry, other U.S. federal agencies, and international partners. It supports fundamental research and verticals-driven technology development, demonstration, and translation to foster leaps in performance and capabilities of next generation (NextG) advanced intelligent network systems spanning the user-edge-core-cloud continuum. The program aims to enhance competitiveness in advanced telecommunications technologies, establish global leadership in NextG wireless telecommunications and vertical industries, and promote workforce development, open, and trustworthy networks. Organized into two tracks: Track 1 supports use-inspired fundamental research for novel networking solutions; Track 2 funds technology development, demonstration, integration, and translation for adoption-ready NextG technologies in key verticals. Proposals may be from U.S.-only or bilateral U.S.-international teams. Industry, federal, and international partner participation varies by track and function.
